How to install our replacement Vivitar 283 / 285 flash shoes.

After you remove the 2 screws that retain the shoe to the flash body you will see four wires. With a soldering iron, carefully remove all of the wires. Now take the red and white wires and solder them together. Use a small piece of shrink tubing or tape to insulate the connection. These two wires tell the flash that there is no PC cord plugged in. Next solder the green and black wires to the replacement shoe, where indicated depending on which flash shoe you purchased. Carefully position the wires within the shoe and replace the retaining screws.

Metal Flash Shoe Replacement

If you purchased our Metal 283/285 flash shoe............ solder the wires where indicated here and carefully put the shoe back on the flash body, watching to make sure and not pinch any wires during reassembly.

Plastic Flash Shoe Replacement

If you purchased our Plastic 283/285 flash shoe............ solder the wires where indicated here and carefully put the shoe back on the flash body, watching to make sure and not pinch any wires during reassembly. Note: I found it easier to remove the contact pieces and solder them off the shoe.
