General Instructions Installing Battery Covers and Card Covers.

A few customers have stated they were able to install the battery cover / card cover by filing on some part of the cover and then slightly forcing it in position. We never recommend that.

You will need a Good Quality Phillips screwdriver with a hardened tip and a pair of Technicians Tweezers. Cheap screwdrivers do not fit the screw head properly and can easily damage it.  We noticed on one recent trip to our local Ace hardware that they had a house brand #00 or #000 size screwdriver that was a excellent quality at a reasonable price.

In addition, it is much easier to hold small parts and put them in place with tweezers instead of your fingers.

You need to work area that is well lit overhead with a clean 24" x 30"  light colored work surface.  Floors with a smooth surface is much better than carpet, in case a part is dropped.

Before you remove anything from your camera look to see how the battery cover / card cover is hinged and how it operates to open and close.  Look to see if a small spring (or not) is used to keep the door in position and how it fits when installed. I then look at the front /  rear / bottom cover seams in relation to the battery / card  cover to get an idea of what needs to be removed to Remove and Replace (R&R) the battery cover.

Generally if the battery / card cover fits between the 2 seams of the Front / Back cover, the case screws will need to removed to separate the covers just enough to R&R the cover.

In some cameras only the bottom or side cover needs to be removed or loosened.

Good Luck

Tech Tips

  • Camera parts fit precisely and never have to be forced into position.

  • The front and rear covers only need to separate approximately 1/4 inch to R&R the battery cover.

  • When removing screws, note screws of different lengths and their location.

  • Generally the tools required to replace battery covers are a pair of technicians tweezers and a Phillips screwdriver.
